Thousands of nurses in Finland are threatening to resign over a demand for a 24 percent pay rise.
The mass resignation would cripple the healthcare system in Finland resulting in patients having to be sent abroad to neighbouring countries. A nurse’s starting salary in the public sector is 1,750 euros ($2,560) a month. In 2005 the average salary for full-time workers in Finland was 2,555 euros.
